Mississippi is named by the Mississippi River, which flows along its western boundary, and comes from the Ojibwe word misi-ziibi which means "big river." The Mississippi River flows through the states Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, and last but not least, Mississippi. It is home to over 3 million people coming all around United States. The Mississippi flag has a blue, white, and red stripe and in the top left corner it has a X that is blue with stars on it. The name "Mississippi" is sometimes hard to spell because it has so many S, P's, and I's in the word.
